TTAM: Sorry, can’t park here!
I’m generally an easy going person and try not to get annoyed by too many things. But my school is pushing it.
They have decided to close the main parking lot. The main parking lot is in the front of the school and not only is it used for student and guest parking but also drop off and pick up.
Well, for reasons unknown to me, my school has had that parking lot blocked off for two days now. It will probably be blocked off tomorrow also.
No one I’ve talked to knows that they’re doing, and there are no notices on the website or the bulletin board. And from what I’ve seen, nobody it working out there.
This annoys me for a couple reasons:
- I get dropped off and picked up from school. I usually get dropped off/picked up at the front doors but now I have to get dropped off on the side and walk farther. It wouldn’t be such an issue except the side we can reach is under construction so I end up having to walk all the way to the front doors anyway. And it’s cold.
- Why couldn’t they do this some other time? I don’t know what they’re doing, but Spring Break is in about two weeks so they could have waited. Instead they are inconveniencing everyone.
- We have to pay for a parking permit (even if we don’t park!). Now that the front parking lot is blocked off it leaves only part of the side lot and… a dirt lot. Yes, you have to pay so that you can park your nice pretty car in the dirt.
- What about the handicapped/people in wheelchairs/crutches/whatever? They usually park in the front and the front door has a button to automatically open the door.

(Thanks to Google Maps for the…map)
- The way the school is set up lets students park in the front parking lot, a dirt lot, and one side parking lot. The back and the other side are for staff. Now that the front lot is temporarily closed that leaves just the side lot or the dirt lot (which would be difficult for someone in a wheelchair to get through and it’s not right up against the school). However, the side we can access has part of the parking lot blocked also because they’re doing construction in that area. That means the handicapped parking spots are blocked off.
So where the heck are they supposed to park? If they got to park in the back (in staff parking) they could park near a ramp but they would either need to have someone open the door for them or go alllll the way around the school to get to the front door. Like I said, only the front door has a button to automatically open.
I don’t know what they are doing or how long this is going to take, but they better work fast.

Urgh, I hate when schools do that! We had an overflow parking lot at my high school and they closed that to make some sort of power plant. Since we are not permitted to park along the street, we became about 100 spaces short… and we were already all fighting to get there earlier so that we could *maybe* get a spot instead of either parking illegally or driving to someone’s house who we knew to park there.
I don’t get why they can’t do things like that during the summer. >.>
