I have been in school for many many years, and one thing I noticed is that on the first day of class everyone picks their seat and stays there. That is their seat for the rest of the semester/year.
Even if your teacher doesn’t assign seats, most people will keep sitting in the same spot they started in. I know I always do.
That seat is mine. I own it. My territory while I’m in there. Mine.
But every now and then there is a new person - or someone who just doesn’t respect seat rules - and you’ll go in the class and guess what? They’re in your seat.
And you are mad.
How dare they be in my seat!
But of course you pretend like everything is cool and just find a new seat. No big deal. Maybe glare at the back of their head a few times.
But the next class meeting you will arrive a little earlier just to make sure you get your seat back. They can steal it from you once, but it’s a fight to the death if they want to keep it.
Well, today was one of those dreaded days. Second day of class, I head to the classroom a few minutes early like always and my seat is taken.
I stopped - suddenly feeling lost - and had a moment of panic, eyes dashing around the room looking for a new seat as fast as possible - before I start to look like an idiot just standing there.
I ending up taking the seat in the next row, right next to my old one. But in turn I ended up stealing someone else’s seat. Makes me feel guilty (sorry to whomever’s seat I stole!)
As for the guy who stole my seat?
He may or may not be the nicest guy in the world, but I can tell you one thing: Him and I will never be friends. As of today we are sworn enemies.
And come Tuesday (next class meeting) I will arrive a little earlier to reclaim my territory.

spoken like a true warrior!
In a way, this post made me glad that we had assigned seats waaay back when I was in school.
I never observed that rule. I sit wherever I feel like.
