Sweeney Todd

The movie, not the play. (Note: I don’t think there are any spoilers in this post)

Now, when my sister first told me about Johnny Depp playing a singing barber I gave her a “what the heck?” kind of look. To me it sounded kind of silly, but at the same time Johnny has played some weird roles. Though I still wasn’t too sure about it, since I hadn’t seen any trailers or heard anything about it other than what my sister and friend told me.

So going into the movie I didn’t know a whole lot about it, but now that I’ve seen it, I love it. It wasn’t as bad as it sounded, and I do think Mr. Depp fills the role nicely.

Though, throughout the whole film my friend and I were laughing at the ‘Harry Potter’ characters.  We were joking about how the movie was a cross between “Pirates of the Caribbean” (with Jack/Johnny) and “Harry Potter” (we spotted 3 people from the HP movies).  But it was a lot of fun.

Johnny’s singing was surprisingly good. I was wary at first, but I actually like his voice. But then again, I think most men can sing, though that might be because I’m a girl so I like male voices.

I also liked the songs. They’re stuck in my head.

All in all, I like the movie - I’m glad I went and saw it - and will definitely be buying the DVD when it comes out.
