Spam these days is, unfortunately, everywhere. I get tons of spam emails everyday, which I quickly delete without even reading.
But bloggers also have to deal with spambots hitting their comment pages.
About a week ago, I was happy to note that I didn’t get any spam posts for several days. But then after my last update I was suddenly bombarded with spam. I’ve gotten about 80 spam comments since my last post.
Though, for the entire life of my blog, Akismet says that I’ve only had 260 spam comments. Only 260… 260 anything would sound like a big number, but when it comes to spam 260 is pretty small. I’m sure other blogs get thousands.
I’m guessing this sudden spambot attack is due to the fact that I got my blog list for having the top commentators plugin (which jamaipanese so cleverly managed to get onto twice). The plugin is to benefit commentors, and I guess the spambots want a piece of the action too.
But I’m curious as to how lucky - or unlucky - I am with spam compared to other blogs. How many spam comments do you manage to get/block?

Consider yourself lucky, I get around 150 per day. I’m at the point now where if someone gets their comment accidentally thrown in with the spam well… too bad. Don’t have the time to scan through that many comments.
Oh, wow, I guess I’m really lucky then o.o That’s a lot of spam~
Look at my stats:
Akismet has caught 1,553 spam for you since you first installed it.
The thing is that those (chinese) spammers are dumb. I mean..go and check if your comment appear. If it doesn’t stop trying with my site.
They should know that we have Akismet.
The bad thing is that even spammer are poor guys that get used by big spam-software creators.
I said Chinese because of the IP and for the bad english. I know my english is bad. But theirs is worse
the captcha on my blog sucker punches all all spam messages and transfers them to the netherworld.
@ my name appearing double on your list…it was an accident….sorry -_-
I had an article which got to the front page of Digg.com and over the following 7-day period I had over 1000 spam comments to sift through. There were, however, plenty of legitimate comments to filter out, so it took me a long time.
