A couple weeks ago ProBlogger asked readers if external links should open in a new window. At the time that I had read the post, the majority vote seemed to be that links should not open in a new window.

After thinking about it, I agreed that it annoyed me when links where forced to open in a new window. After all, if I wanted them to open in a new window/tab, I could do it myself.

It looked pretty clear that “links should not open in a new window” was winning.

But today Darren tallied up the results and 46% chose ’same window’ for links while 54% preferred links being opened in a new window.

‘New Window’ won this round, but the votes where incredibly close.  Do keep in mind, most of the voters where probably bloggers themselves - so there may be a difference in opinion between bloggers and just readers.

I’ve stopped forcing links to open in a new window - but what do you prefer? New window or same window?

And which do you use on your blog?

For my blog, I open-in-new-window external links. As a surfer(web; I went to surf the waves once and the surfboard hit my face), I have many many tabs opened.

I open in a new window cause I don’t like it when I read through text and i find a link that I want to open, but I also want to continue reading the text, so I click on the link in the middle of the text and lose my spot when it opens in the same window T.T lol but I guess some people dont like so many windows opened
